Admiral Elmo Zumwalt, Jr.

The hero of “The Man From 2063″ is Sean Zumwalt.

He is named after Admiral Elmo Zumwalt, Jr.  Admiral Zumwalt was a WWII shipmate and close personal friend of Dr. Jack Duffy, the father of author Jack Duffy, Jr.

Admiral Zumwalt was the youngest naval officer ever promoted to flag rank. He was the commander of the USS Robinson in WW II.

Admiral Zumwalt was the commander of U.S. Naval forces in South Vietnam.  He was the youngest officer ever promoted to Admiral. He then became the youngest Admiral ever appointed Chief of Naval Operations.

Admiral Zumwalt made sweeping changes in the Navy during his time as CNO. He became well known as a reformer who advanced opportunities for women and minorities in the Navy.

Admiral Zumwalt ordered the spraying of Agent Orange over the jungles of South Vietnam to reduce casualties among US navy servicemen.

In 1998 he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Bill Clinton.  A new biography about Admiral Zumwalt will be released in October 2012.
